Work is ongoing to commission a new platform at Crathes West Lodge (the old A93 lay-by), named Riverside Halt.
The platform has been built using a number of 20 ft half-height containers laid end to end, with timber decking and fencing, and suitable access ramps, steps and lighting.
Current activities include track panel sorting, laying, and levelling for the east turnout.
It is hoped to have the new station ready to accept passenger services once the covid restrictions are lifted later in 2021.

This video shows the first train arriving into the new platform at west lodge.
The volunteers of the Royal Deeside Railway Preservation Society have been making good progress at West Lodge, with invaluable help from McIntosh Plant Hire & Heavy Logistics, Palmaris Plant Hire, Subsea Tooling Services and others.
Work continues to lay track at the new Riverside Halt platform.
