Summer at the Royal Deeside Railway
Posted by John Williamson on Sunday 27 June 2010
The 2010 season is now well under way and with summer now upon us (finally), the opportunity presents itself to continue the good work of previous years.
Bon-Accord has still to make her first public appearance which has been temporarily delayed due to some mechanical problems, but it is hoped her long-awaited debut will be in the very near future.
Mechanical problems have also meant that the mainstay of the railway's fleet of locomotives, the Barclay diesel locomotive, is also temporarily withdrawn from service. Her duties in the meantime are being undertaken by one of the company's two 03 diesel locomotives.
Visitors to Milton of Crathes this month may have noticed and admired the fine display of potted plants on the platform. The pots and tubs were very kindly donated by Hill of Banchory primary school. The pupils of the school visited the railway earlier in the month and were treated to a trip on a train and a talk about the history of the railway. Their kind gift is very much appreciated by both railway staff and members of the public alike.
Below are a few photographs to keep our many friends (at home and abroad) up to date with what's been happening at the RDRPS. Hope you enjoy them.
